ARLE-Presidency Student Workshop
On Tuesday, September 6th at 5:00 pm faculty teaching this year’s Presidency Alternate Reality Learning Experience (ARLE) hosted a one-hour workshop in Kirk Hall for their students. The workshop provided students from participating classes an opportunity to meet and begin collaborating together.
Faculty presented three political television commercials to students. The selected commercials were from historic presidential elections. Next, instructors facilitated brief conversations asking students to share their opinions about what they liked or didn’t like about the respective commercials. Then, students changed groups and created a storyboard for a television campaign advertisement. Finally, students presented their storyboards with the entire group.
At the end of the hour-long session each ARLE Presidential and Vice Presidential candidate introduced themselves.
Over the course of this Fall semester, the ARLE Republicans and Democrats will be campaigning culminating in a final debate & vote. Along the way, our education students will interview and/or moderate debates on education platforms. Our communication students will establish a “brand” for each candidate. Our Social Media / Marketing classes have set up Facebook, Twitter, podcasts, and other channels to communicate (all of which can be found on our launching pad website – http://tali.saintleo.edu/presidency. And, who knows, the parties may even have to deal with a scandal along the way.
On November 7, 2016, Saint Leo will host a debate between our two ARLE Presidential hopefuls. Our video production majors will stream the event live from 7-9pm on our website.
